mackintosh bedside table

My first designed and hand-crafted dining table, made from solid ash wood. It makes me think about the forests in the UK being plagued by ash dieback, and how lucky I have been to work with this timber, which may forever change our relationship with it.

This piece feels like a graduation project for a craft I never studied, a craft I feel lucky enough to have learned by asking questions and putting my hands to work. It is a conscious decision towards fine furniture, wanting to leave laminates behind and trust in endurance.

It carries with it months of learning from the wood itself: understanding its movement, learning the tools, the joints, and most importantly, learning alongside a group of incredible carpenters that I’m so lucky to be surrounded by.

Made and hand-crafted in London, UK.

The structure duplicates each leg: one supports the tabletop, while the other wraps around the contour of the table, leaving a visible detail where the 16 mm radius accompanies every curve of the piece.
